Death Cab pays tribute to John Hughes

The song "Don't You (Forget About Me)" is well associated with John Hughes. Richard Butler of the Psychedelic Furs (Pretty in Pink) wrote the track, which eventually found it's way into the hands of Simple Minds; after Billy Idol turned it down. It became a piece of teen history when Hughes soundtracked the closing scene of The Breakfast Club. As Mr. Vernon read "we accept the fact that we had to sacrifice a whole saturday in detention for whatever it is we did wrong, but we think you're crazy for making us write an essay telling you who we think we are... what we found out, is that each one of us is a brain, and an athlete, and a basketcase, a princess, and a criminal."

Death Cab For Cutie performed "Don't You (Forget About Me)" in a tribute to John Hughes at the Critics' Choice Movie Awards last week. Check it out.

Surf Gear and Death Cab For Cutie Go Together Like Ummm, Uhhhhh, They Just Do

Surf Gear and Death Cab For Cutie Go Together Like Ummm, Uhhhhh, They Just Do

If you happen to surf, skate, or just like backpacks, and you are also a fan of Death Cab For Cutie, I have some great news for you. If some or all of the above doesn't apply to you, you might just want to move on now. If it does pay attention. Oh yeah, you also need to have $40. Anyways, surf, skate and apparel retailer Dakine has partnered with Death Cab on a promotion for their brand new EP, The Open Door.

If you purchase $40 worth of Dakine goods at a participating Dakine retailer, you get the CD free, and entered into a drawing for free concert tickets.

I think if you buy the CD, you should get $40 worth of Dakine stuff free. Because I need a new tailpad and don't have forty bucks. I also think you should get free tickets and not entered for free tickets. I know you really care what I think.
